| Arrival of the RHK 4-probe STM/SEM |
| Scanwel are proud to announce the arrival of the RHK UHV Multi-Probe SPM. | |
| This Low Temperature UHV 4-Probe System features: |
![]() |
The LT UHV 4-Probe system is one of a family of multiple probe UHV SPM systems offered by RHK Technology and Unisoku Scientific Instruments. The system provides a complete multi technique, multi-chamber UHV system with all control electronics and software required for a full range of research applications. |
|
RHK received an order for the new 4-Probe system from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in the US in late 2004. ORNL pioneers the development of new energy sources, technologies, and materials and the advancement of knowledge in the biological, chemical, computational, engineering, environmental, physical, and social sciences. Please visit www.ornl.gov for more information.

| STM 150 Aarhus installed for Professor Rasmita Raval at Liverpool |
SP€CS GmbH has acquired the rights to market and produce the well renowned STM developed by Professors Flemming Besenbacher, Erik Lægsgaard, and Ivan Stensgaard at the University of Aarhus. |
|

The new dynamic STM 150 Aarhus allows taking videos of ultimate atomic performance and observing nanometer scale processes on surfaces. A miniaturized design and a very small mechanical loop between the tip and the sample of the STM 150 Aarhus guarantee extreme stability, which is unique in the STM market. High resonant frequencies of the scanner head lead to highest stability and low noise, insuring fast scan rates. |

| Unilever's XE-100 upgraded with Heating/Cooling Stage and Nanoindenter |
In December 2004, the XE-100 system at Unilever's Port Sunlight research and development centre on the Wirral, Merseyside, was upgraded with a Heating/Cooling Stage and Nanoindenter facility. |
|
![]() |
The XE-100 is rapidly becoming renowned in academic and industrial circles for it's powerful non-contact mode of scanning. This is thanks to it's incredibly fast response system, achieved by innovate separation of the XY scanner from the Z scanner. The mass of the Z scanner is significantly smaller than that of a conventional SPM, therefore the resonance frequency of the Z scanner is significantly higher. This allows for faster response of the Z scanner resulting in faster and more accurate data acquisition during it's true non contact imaging mode. The true non contact mode of the XE series of SPM's needs to be seen to be believed. |
The Heating and Cooling Stage is designed to provide controlled heating or cooling of the sample. Just with the heating and cooling stage alone, samples can be heated up to 180ºC and cooled down to 10ºC. For cooling down to 0ºC, water circulation is connected to the cooling unit to enhance the cooling ability. Nanoindentation enables the user to perform indentation tests to measure the material properties such as hardness and elasticity on the nano scale. |

| New detector options added to the SP€CS PHOIBOS range of analysers |
Now users of the PHIOBOS can benefit from the following additional detection modes: |
|

The 2D CCD detector system simultaneously
uses both the energy and angular resolution of the analyser for band mapping, angular mapping, high resolution XPS/UPS, and image state spectroscopy with 2PPE (see data on left). |

A 3D (one time and two lateral dimensions) segmented delay-line detector system can be mounted on a PHOIBOS 100 or 150 analyser. The new hybrid design (segmented delay-line) combines high countrates (50 MHz) with extremely high temporal resolution (125 ps) in one device.
