Harald joined VEECO
as chief engineer in 1965 and moved to the UK to help set up the
European operation. In 1970 he was a founding director of Nordiko.
In 1974 he left to set up Scanwel (Scandinavian Welsh) to provide
an engineering sub-contract service to the vacuum industry. The
product range and the markets served have increased untold times
over the years and Harald has kept Scanwel at the forefront of
both vacuum and manufacturing technology. Most recently he managed
the LINK Photonics HETFEL program.
It is impossible to
estimate how many vacuum users have benefited from Harald's broad
expertise and wealth of experience. In recent years many of our
customers have tapped into this font of knowledge through the
Scanwel vacuum courses - no two were ever the same!
Although Harald sold
the company in 1995, he has continued to play an active and valuable
daily role. The imminent move to, be nearer family in, Sweden
is probably the only reason that from October Harald will no longer
be directly available to our customers for telephone problem solving.
I hope that, like all
of us at Scanwel, you take the time to wish Harald and Birgit
well in their long and deserved retirement
