Energy Analyzers
and X-Ray Sources

SPECS has a long history of production of high performance "add-on" electron energy analyzers for special purpose UHV analytical systems, of which the EA 10 and EA 200 series provide established benchmarks in their class.
Now with the PHOIBOS analyzer, SPECS presents a new generation of hemispherical analyzers aiming to set the standard for these devices. New approaches and technical solutions led to a system that combines excellent performance with highest reliability for the largest possible variety of experimental conditions.

PHOIBOS

The New Generation Hemispherical Energy Analyzer for Electron and Ion Spectroscopy

PHOIBOS is designed for use in an ESCA system to perform XPS, SSXPS (Small Spot XPS), UPS, AES, SAM and ISS measurements. These Electron/Ion Spectroscopy techniques, in particular XPS and Small Spot XPS, offer the possibility to obtain quantitative elemental and chemical information from surface layers, providing a powerful analysis tool for a wide range of materials.

  • True 180† hemispherical energy analyzer for XPS, UPS, AES, and ISS.
  • 100 mm or 150 mm mean radius.
  • Exclusive use of non-magnetic materials inside mu-metal shielding.
  • Sophisticated "Slit Orbit" mechanism for external setting of 5 entrance and exit slits.
  • Viewport for through-the-lens align ment of sample and excitation sources.
  • Multimode transfer lens for angular and spatially resolved studies.
  • All lens modes electronically adjustable.
  • Small spot analysis down to 125µm resolution.
  • ONE new state-of-the-art fully digital power supply.
  • Ultra-fast low noise preamplifier and counter
  • Single and Multi Channel (5 for 100mm or 9 channel for 150mm analyzer) Detection. MCD can be retrofitted on-site.
  • Highly competitive price/performance ratio.
  • The analyzer is fully equipped for integration with the SPECSLAB data acquisition and processing system.

X-Ray Sources

SPECS manufactures a range of non-monochromated and monochromated X-ray sources for "add-on" applications as well as using them in its own complete instruments.

RQ2038 x-ray source Typical of the range is the RQ2038, shown here:
a Henke type with positive high voltage(15kV max) Mg/Al twin anode (standard), water cooled, capable of 600/800W operation (300/400 watt continuous loading). Twin filament, thin Al window design optimized for minimum cross talk: differential pumping and z-translators are available.
